Leading Projects with Purpose

Jason Hughes joins Kollosche primed to drive its New Projects division into a dynamic era of growth and innovation.

In the world of property development, true all-rounders are rare.

Those who can take a project from a blank page to a built form, while speaking the language of every stakeholder along the way, are even harder to find.

That is what makes Jason Hughes, Kollosche’s recently appointed Head of New Projects, a compelling addition to the team.

Having more than 15 years’ experience spanning construction, development, project management and marketing, Jason has worked across the full spectrum of the development process.

“I’ve straddled everything, from site acquisition to design approvals, marketing, procurement and construction delivery,” Jason says.

“This has given me a holistic perspective of the industry which, I think, is quite unique.”

A Plan for Growth

Originally from Melbourne, Jason and his partner recently relocated to the Gold Coast in search of a lifestyle change. For now, the pair have set up house in their former holiday bolt hole of Main Beach.

While the pace of life has shifted, Jason’s professional vision is anything but slowing down.

“I wasn’t looking to go back into a traditional development role, so when I was invited to join Kollosche it proved an exciting prospect,” Jason says. “It’s an opportunity to be strategic, innovative and help inform how projects are conceived and delivered in one of Australia’s most exciting and fastest-growing markets.”

With the New Projects division at Kollosche primed for evolution, Jason views his role to be one of a builder and a bridge, bringing developers and buyers closer together through strategic planning, refined processes, and better communication.

“Luxury is not just about finishes; it’s about livability, longevity, and functionality,” Jason says. “For developers to succeed, they need a partner who understands both the numbers and the nuances of the development process in order to execute successful project marketing strategies.

My role is to help developers de-risk, add value, and create homes that people really want to live in. The end goal is to craft residences that are desirable to the market and that people enjoy spending their time in.”

Strong Credentials

Jason is well-placed to do this, having helped to deliver more than $1.2 billion worth of development throughout his career.

His formative years coincided with Melbourne’s “golden age” of development where he worked under the stewardship of Deloitte PDS Group, among other consultancies, to deliver major residential, commercial and hospitality projects.

In 2018, Jason branched out, co-founding Spark Projects, which was responsible for delivering Alba Thermal Springs and Spa on the Mornington Peninsula. As Australia’s largest thermal spa and a multi-award-winning icon of luxury hospitality, it is a notable achievement.

While Jason‘s humble and down-to-earth nature means he doesn’t like to fixate on awards and accolades, he does concede that Alba was a proud achievement and helped shape his approach to luxury project delivery.

Aside from Jason’s practical experience, he holds a Bachelor of Commerce, a Master of Construction Management, and a Master of Construction Law from the University of Melbourne.

He also remains involved in leading a collaborative project with the university to develop low carbon concrete precast panels that support sustainable and modular construction techniques.
