Cooper McComack Joins Kollosche: When Excellence is the Norm
What led you to enter the real estate industry?

“I almost fell into it, really. Before real estate, I spent five years as a professional footballer with Brisbane Roar and then at NPL level. One of my teammates was an agent and kept telling me to come and work for him. I learnt quickly, mostly by making mistakes, but I fell in love with the freedom of it. Most importantly, I realised how much it means to be trusted with someone’s biggest asset. That responsibility is not lost on me.”

How would you describe your sales approach?

“Energetic and enthusiastic but also professional and calculated. I want clients to enjoy the process. Selling is often stressful, so my role is to give people certainty and confidence through a process rather than promising a price. They should feel like they’re in safe hands.”

Your area of focus is Burleigh Heads. What excites you about that market?

“From a lifestyle perspective, Burleigh is hard to beat – the beaches, the dining, the amenities. But it’s also progressive; commercially there’s serious momentum. The apartment market is incredibly strong, fuelled by development confidence and off-the-plan demand. On the housing side, particularly on Burleigh Hill now, we’re seeing extraordinary results which is a testament to the area’s future.”

You have been an agent for five years now. What is the biggest lesson you have learned?

“You can’t trick the marketplace. Early on, I didn’t have enough experience and, sometimes, I messed up. Later, I realised that if you genuinely understand what you’re talking about, people can sense the difference. But that experience only comes from doing the work – studying the market, learning from your mistakes and becoming the person you say you are. Anything less means homeowners will see through it.”

If you could change one thing about the industry, what would it be?

“I would raise the barrier to entry. It’s too easy to gain your license, and that can lead to inconsistent service levels. When you’re dealing with someone’s largest asset, experience and competence should be non-negotiable.”

Outside of work, what motivates you?

“I’m inherently competitive. I’ve played sport my entire life and that drive doesn’t switch off. It pushes me to constantly improve in business and personally.”

Are you still playing football?

“I am. I recently started playing again at NPL level with Rochedale Rovers. It keeps me grounded and competitive. Sport has always been a huge part of my life, and that mindset absolutely carries over into real estate.”

Finally, if money were no object, where would you live and why?

“Right here on the southern Gold Coast. I truly believe it’s the best place in the world. Specifically, I would be on The Esplanade in Burleigh or along Jefferson Lane in Palm Beach, in a modern home designed by the best architects in the business.”
