Escape to a Luxury Country Oasis

Kollosche presents Rivermead Estate, 1-3 Caballo Road, Guanaba

What started out as a family weekender with space enough to ride and graze horses in the hills behind the Gold Coast has evolved into a world-class escape fit for A-list clientele.

Rivermead Estate is set on 55 acres in the semi-rural locale of Guanaba, where rolling green pasture, mature trees and a freshwater lake provide the perfect setting for a country escape.

It was that picturesque backdrop which, in 2017, captured the hearts of owners Tim and Karin Gordon, who saw the immense potential in the rundown Queenslander homestead and its stunning surrounds.

“We were drawn to the natural beauty of the property,” says Tim.

“The Coomera River runs around the perimeter plus it has some incredible open space, as well as the polo field and the functionality for keeping horses.

“The location for me was also very important – being 30 minutes from Surfers Paradise, 50 minutes to Brisbane and 30 minutes from our home in Mermaid Beach, it’s very accessible.”

Michael Kollosche and Rob Lamb present Rivermead Estate with an asking price of $21,500,000.

Drawing on Tim’s background in building and property development and Karin’s flair for interior design, the couple embarked on a major renovation of the six-bedroom homestead in a style reflecting the casual luxury of Hawaii’s iconic plantation properties.

“The old homestead was somewhat dilapidated but the bones of the building itself were solid and it has a beautiful history with different owners over the years, including Gold Coast Polo Club,” says Tim.

“From a development perspective, there was so much promise. We pretty much gutted the property and transformed it into what it is today.”

Crowned by pendant chandeliers, the formal dining room caters for up to 12 people while a casual dining and living area, lounge and billiards room, bar and a cinema offer multiple opportunities for families and guests to play and unwind.

Three of five bedrooms in the main residence have their own ensuites while the deluxe master suite opens to a wrap-around verandah where a sunset vista pairs perfectly with a chilled glass of bubbles.

Exceptional amenities take the property from country manor to contemporary oasis, including a pool, spa, sauna, fully equipped gym and massage/yoga room. A championship tennis court, tournament-size polo field, modern equine facility and basketball court cater for active types while the Teppanyaki bar and firepit are ideal for entertaining under the stars.

The multi-faceted estate is being marketed by Kollosche in an expression of interest campaign led by principal Michael Kollosche and agent Rob Lamb.

Rivermead Estate has emerged as a luxury rural escape of choice for wealthy families from around Australia and has also played host to high-end events for prestige brands including Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes and Magic Millions.

“When we’re not using it, we’ve got a full-time manager who handles the commercial side of the business,” says Tim.

“Rivermead is well-known in Sydney and Melbourne circles as a desirable and extremely private property to use as a family retreat to get away from city life.

“Guests are coming to Rivermead instead of travelling overseas. We had one Sydney group stay who rated the experience as being better than their time in the Mediterranean on a superyacht. That was an amazing compliment.”

Rumours that Hollywood actor Tom Hanks and his entourage were self-isolating at Rivermead during the COVID-19 crisis created a buzz of media interest, with any plans to quarantine at the estate scuppered by the Queensland Government decision not to grant special exemptions to A-Listers.

Travel restrictions and time spent in lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic triggered intense demand for lifestyle real estate on the Gold Coast, with a surge in interest from interstate and expat buyers looking to put down roots in the Sunshine State.

“People are really starting to understand that the Gold Coast has matured a lot over the years,” says Tim.

“The city now also has the infrastructure support, amazing weather and beaches, as well as a thriving restaurant and cafe scene.

With all that coming together, the market for Rivermead is potentially large families, but also someone who can see the potential revenue streams.”

“There is no other property like it on the Gold Coast.”
